To help celebrate Ohio’s bicentennial and
support the Ohio Historical Society, six artists from the Ohio
Plein Air Society crisscrossed the state to capture and retell
the stories of our state, our counties, and our people. 88 original
oil paintings were created, each featuring a historically or culturally
significant aspect of a different Ohio county.
Artists
Our artists created their work en plein
aire, and organized the Ohio Plein Air Society to increase awareness
and advance the fine art of painting in the plein air tradition.
In its truest sense, plein air painting is painting in the open
air. Plein air artists capture landscapes, cityscapes and other
scenes while physically and spiritually experiencing the environment
they are painting.
